Daniel G – :
The current trend in today’s society is to assume that science and Christianity are somehow in direct conflict with one another. But, as Dr. Moreland explained, not only is this inaccurate, but it must be demonstrated as to how science (generally or specifically) infringes Christianity or “disproves” it.
The truth is that the great majority of science, approximately 90%, is irrelevant to Christianity, meaning it does not conflict with the Christian Faith whatsoever. Most of the remainder of science, approximately 6%-7%, actually supports Christianity, and Dr. Moreland elaborated on this point using examples such as the discoveries that the universe has not existed forever, and that it is so finely tuned as to imply a “tuner.”
However, after stating the general positives regarding science and Christianity, Dr. Moreland admitted that there is a small portion of science that is in conflict with Christianity, and this conflict is over “issues related to scripture.”
Overall I found what Dr. Moreland shared and said to be quite beneficial, especially given the current cultural context. The point that I took away, and will share with youth in my church ministry, is simply that science and Christianity are not in such conflict as is popularly assumed and propagated. And in the few areas that the two might appear to conflict, the Truth will always prevail.
